Laos has developed its own culture and rules over thousands of years. Since 2012 Laos has had a population of around 6.4 million people spread around 236,800 km2 of land, making Laos one of the lowest populated countries in Asia. Laos' social structures are much more simple than in other countries that are neighbouring it.
When it came to monks, most males became them at different points in their lives which provided introductions into education to learn but when the Laotian King passed away in 1975, there were many attempts to stop the significance of the monarchy and change most of the religious traditions and holidays in Laos. In the past couple of years there has been an interest again in the monarchy and religious traditions as well as holidays in Laos.
